I spent too many years in retail to ever want to spend the Friday after Thanksgiving shopping.  All that traffic and pushing and waiting in line is great for retailers but not for me.  I actually went to W@lmart one Black Friday about 15 years ago.  I figured I'd zip in at 5 am, pick up the vacuum and TV and be back at home before my husband woke up.  This was before the days of being open on Thanksgiving day and even at 5 am, the store was packed.   Packed with mean, pushy, cart ramming shoppers.  I picked up the two things I came for as fast as I could (which wasn't all that fast) and vowed never to do that again.  Never.  Ever. These days my Black Fridays are more relaxing and fun.  If you're looking for something to do this year besides hitting the mall, consider one of these activities: Put up your Christmas Tree.   This can be a fun family event and if you have relatives in town you even get some extra help!  Tak...

It's always fun to have a family night at home and a movie night is one of our favorites.  Ours are usually pretty basic but you could go all out and make it a real party. If you want to go all out there are some fabulous ideas on Pinterest (of course!) We usually pick out a family friendly movie, pop some popcorn and choose our favorite seats in front of the TV.  Some of our favorite family movies are: What are some of your favorite family movies?   With the holidays right around the corner you might want to have a few festive movies in mind for some quiet nights at home.  Check out last year's Holiday Movie Marathon post for some fun ideas. One of my favorite things about Christmastime is the movies.  I love watching them over and over each year.  The classics like "It's a Wonderful Life" and newer ones like "Four Christmases" are equally popular here at September Acres.  I am especially fond of the hokey Lifetime movies ('it's a wonderful lifetime')  You know the ones: there's usually a female lead named Holly or Noel and a male named Nick or Chris as well as a Santa type character.  They're very predictable but so fun to watch on a Saturday afternoon.  Grab some popcorn and join me as I list my very favorite Christmas movies.  You'll probably find a few of these are some of your favorites.  And maybe you'll get some ideas for new ones to watch this year (and beyond). LM was selling Girl Scout cookies at our local bookstore today after school. She was there for 5 (!) hours so I wanted to take her a sandwich for dinner. The hubby came with me and we spent quite a while in the store just looking around. A rare luxury indeed. I decided to splurge on a couple of books. I usually go to the library but the 2 I got are ones I think I would like to keep. The first book is ' Veganist ' by Kathy Freston . You may have seen her on 'Oprah'. I just love her. She helped Oprah's staff go Vegan for a week. Now, I think it might be hard to go totally Vegan but even if I was halfway there I'd be better off. So I'm going to read more about it and then see what I think. I just read this book and it was enough to make me consider giving up meat, if not dairy and eggs. I also picked up 'One Thousand Gifts' by Ann Voskamp . I am really looking forward to reading this one. I almost bought 'Mr. Sunday's Soups' by Lorraine Wal...
