I posted some photos of my living room a while back. I realized how blah and boring it looks. I appreciate the suggestions I was given. One of them was 'paint'. We had the walls painted a couple years ago so I really didn't want to do it again just yet so I had to figure what else I could do to get some color in there. I thought about painting a canvas red to match the chair ( below). After talking to my sister she suggested dipping cool whip containers in paint to make the circles and an idea was born. I bought the 3 canvases (20" X 20") at Michaels at 50% off - the three cost $21. I got a quart of paint at Lowe's ($12 - Martha Stewart's Cranberry something or the other). The blue paint was a sample size of Olympic that someone didn't buy -$1. Cool whip container and little round container I had in the kitchen - free. Fleur de lis printed off computer, traced on canvas and painted - free. So for $34 I got this new look. Very David Bro...
When we moved into our house all the interior doors were dark wood. Not my cup of tea and I always wanted to have white doors and white trim. Knowing it would either be expensive to hire someone to do it or super time consuming for me, I put it on the back burner. I got a quote from a door company $175 per door installed. Using hubby as the door guy? $59 per door installed. Well, eleven years later we have white doors and trim. Here's a before - it's actually a 'still' because it's the one door we didn't change - the closet door in the office - it's an odd, special order size and we just haven't gotten to it. But it's a good thing since it means I have a 'before' for this post! I despised these handles on these doors too and was on a mission to find something I liked that wasn't too expensive. Last summer we bought one door at Lowes and the hubby installed it - one door to make sure we liked it and that he was up to the task of installa...
Have you ever done a project and wondered 'why didn't I do this sooner?' That's me with this back splash. We have been casually talking about it for a couple of years and seriously since October. We bought 2 samples of what we wanted back then. But I wasn't quite ready to commit. Why didn't I want to commit? Well, we have very little wall space in our kitchen and I was worried about having even less room to hang things. And the tile is going to be there for a long, long time! What if I don't like it?? But I shouldn't have worried too much since the back splash makes the room look so much brighter and bigger. Frankly, I don't care about hanging things when something looks this good! I can't believe how much that brown paint sucked the light out of the room. Even when we had the lights on. I think it makes the cabinets looker brighter and better. It really sets off the counter tops. I want to keep the counters clutter free now. Ah, the things ...
