Make yourself at home...

We have had Smokey for two weeks. He is getting more comfortable here each day. He apparently thinks he is a chihuahua. Why else would he jump up on the couch, on top of me? All 74.2 lbs of him. The other night we were watching tv and I was laying on the couch. Smokey wanted to sit on the couch too. So why not just jump up and find a comfy spot? Here he is all comfy like laying on the couch, I mean me. (Please excuse my tired look - I had just gotten out of the shower after swimming with LM all afternoon and was in my jammies.) I am not a fan of pets on the couch so we are working on this. He usually just wants to be up there if I am there so I may have to stick to sitting in the chair. But I am confident we can train him to stay off the couch.

Last night LM stayed at her friend's house overnight. My husband and I went to the mall. I got a dress for my cousin's wedding and then we went to the movies. We saw 'A PerfectGetaway'.REALLY good - definitely worth the 8 or so dollars to get in the theater.

I pick up LM in a little while and then she has a birthday party this afternoon. Quite the social butterfly...

I posted some photos of my living room a while back. I realized how blah and boring it looks. I appreciate the suggestions I was given. One of them was 'paint'. We had the walls painted a couple years ago so I really didn't want to do it again just yet so I had to figure what else I could do to get some color in there. I thought about painting a canvas red to match the chair ( below). After talking to my sister she suggested dipping cool whip containers in paint to make the circles and an idea was born. I bought the 3 canvases (20" X 20") at Michaels at 50% off - the three cost $21. I got a quart of paint at Lowe's ($12 - Martha Stewart's Cranberry something or the other). The blue paint was a sample size of Olympic that someone didn't buy -$1. Cool whip container and little round container I had in the kitchen - free. Fleur de lis printed off computer, traced on canvas and painted - free. So for $34 I got this new look. Very David Bro...

Should I stay or should I go...

In December (the last day of school before Christmas break) Little Miss came down with pink eye. It was her first bout with it but I was pretty sure it was contagious and the school nurse confirmed that and suggested that she go straight to the doctor. Easier said than done, apparently. LM has been going to the same pediatrician since she was born. She has been for all her scheduled checkups to this same doctor. I have only had to take her ONCE in almost 8 yrs for something other than a checkup (she had swimmers ear when she was about 2). I am not one of those people who call for an appointment every time she has a sniffle. Apparently, that doesn't mean anything. At least not at Dr. O's office. I call in the late morning to see if LM can get in for her (contagious) pink eye. The receptionist says WITH A STRAIGHT FACE 'let's see, we can see her on Jan 6th.' Lunch Box Granola...

LM's teacher gave her class an extra credit assignment for math last week.  It was a cooking assignment which helps the kids with fractions.  They had two recipe choices and she picked the lunch box granola.   I have been wanting to make granola for a while so I was happy she chose this one.   She made a list of everything I would need to buy and I headed to the store while she was at school on Friday.   $16 later , I had the missing ingredients.  I was a bit shocked that some of these items cost so much.  I felt like we just bought a grade! All the ingredients ready to go. Recipe Fresh out of the oven. The finished product. LM did everything herself except put the cookie sheet in the oven and take it out. She emailed a picture of it to the teacher and turned in a paragraph about it on Monday.  It turned out delicious and I know I'll be making it again, using up the ingredients I bought.  I don't think I'll ever buy granola again ...
